Jesus and Me Class

Lessons with the pastor according to your schedule.

The Bible is about Jesus. It’s also about us. At its core the Bible is about God’s work to restore us to himself in Jesus.

Jesus and Me is a thirteen-lesson course on the chief teachings of the Bible. At the center of all of them is Jesus and us.

This course serves as the path to membership at Living Hope. It’s also a favorite of many members for reviewing the Bible’s teaching and growing in faith.

The next course will begin the first week of May! Check out the interest form further down this page.

Lessons

  • The Bible

How do we know there is a God? Can someone believe in Jesus apart from the Bible? Is the Bible God’s Word or mankind’s ideas? What is the basic message of the Bible?

  • The Beginning

The first three chapters of Genesis show us the beginning of the world, the beginning of sin, and the beginning of God’s plan to save.

  • The Law

The Ten Commandments provide us with a summary of God’s will for godly living. In what way do the Ten Commandments apply to us today? Why don’t we worship on Saturday (the Sabbath)? How well must a person keep the commandments?

  • The Savior: Humiliation

From his conception to his death and burial, Jesus set aside the power and glory that belong to him as God in order to save us. A review of Jesus’ life from his conception to his burial.

  • The Savior: Exaltation

Beginning with his resurrection, Jesus again began to use his power and glory to demonstrate his victory for us. A review of Jesus’ life from his resurrection to the present day.

  • The Means of Grace

Jesus took away the sins of the world on the cross, but the blessings of his forgiveness are received only by faith. How does a person get faith? The gospel is the means by which God creates and preserves faith.

  • The Sacrament of Holy Baptism

What is baptism? Why do we do it? What does it accomplish? Why do some churches baptize babies, while others don’t?

  • The Sacrament of Holy Communion

What is communion? Why do we do it? What does it accomplish? Why don’t we give communion to our little children? Why do we reserve communion for people who are members of our church body?

  • The Christian Life

Why doesn’t God just take Christians to heaven as soon as they believe? What is the purpose of the Christian life? If Jesus forgives all of our sins, why not go on sinning?

  • The Christian's Worship

What is prayer? Do we have to pray? What constitutes worship? Why do we worship the way we do?

  • The Last Things

Death and Judgment Day: What three different kinds of death does the Bible speak of? What is going to happen on Judgment Day? What are heaven and hell like?

  • Roles within the Body of Christ

The Bible describes the Christian church like a body of which Jesus is the head. Just like a body has various parts that have various needs and serve various functions, so also the church is composed of various people with various gifts in various life-stations. Each is a part of the body, to serve and to be served.

  • The Church

What is the mission of the church? Is there a difference between pastors and lay people? If there is only one Holy Christian Church, then why are there so many denominations? What is our relationship with denominations that teach differently from us?
